The Everglades, a must see subtropical wilderness

One of America┬┤s wild places with a unique ecosystem, the Everglades. A subtropical wilderness that you must see and experience. The Everglades is a 1.5 million acre wetland made of cypress swamps, mangrove forests, sawgrass marshes, pine rockland, hammocks and the marine environment of Florida Bay. This "River of Grass" consists of a rare flora and fauna and is protected by one of the largest national parks in the US.

Among some of the wildlife that inhabit the Everglades are frogs, diverse bird species, fox, deer, fish, the endangered leatherback turtle, manatee, alligator, snakes, Florida panther, and others. As for its native plant species we can find bromeliads, orchids, cactus, algae, lichens, flowers, and many different others.

How to experience this natural area? Here are some ideas:

  • Kayaking
  • Canoeing
  • Taking an airboat ride or a night airboat tour
